Vivint, one of the largest home automation companies in North America, launched Phase Two of its second annual Vivint Gives Back Project today. The 2011 Vivint Gives Back Project is an online charitable campaign that could generate up to $1.25 million in contributions to non-profit organizations throughout the United States and Canada.
The objectives of the Vivint Gives Back Project include:
During Phase One, which ran from April 25 to June 11, fans of Vivint’s Facebook page nominated and endorsed their favorite local charities. The top 20 charities in each of four U.S. regions and Canada (100 total) have been named Regional Finalists and will move onto Phase Two. (See Regional Finalists named below.)
The inaugural 2010 Gives Back Project drew 136 nominations during Phase One of the competition. This year, participants submitted a ten-fold increase of 2,382 charities during Phase One, which they endorsed 303,081 times over the eight-week period. During this phase, once an organization was nominated, participants could endorse it once per day.
Phase Two: During Phase Two, fans can vote for their favorite charity among the 100 Regional Finalists by visiting http://www.vivint.com/givesbackproject. Participants can vote for one finalist per day. Voting ends at 11:59 p.m. EST on August 27, 2011.
At the end of the competition, the eligible non-profit organization receiving the most overall votes will be named the Vivint Gives Back Project’s top charity and will be awarded $250,000. The remaining top charity in each of the five regions garnering the most votes will be awarded $100,000 each.
About Vivint Gives Back
The Vivint Gives Back project was created to focus the efforts of the employees at Vivint on banding together to alleviate hardship and restore hope for people in need. Through this program, Vivint employees have the opportunity to contribute time and resources to service projects ranging from clean-up efforts in the aftermath of the Joplin, Missouri tornado, to providing meals at a Ronald McDonald House and adopting a local elementary school where our employees mentor and tutor students at risk in a long term relationship.
The 2010 Vivint Gives Back Project awarded $250,000 to the six organizations that received the most votes. Overall, fans nominated 263 non-profits and cast more than 260,000 votes. During the project, employees also participated in 7,500 hours of community service. Security Sales & Integration magazine recognized the project as the “Best Community Outreach Program” with a 2011 SAMMY Award.
