Company Working with Local Police to Help Crime Victims Feel More Secure
Vivint™, one of the nation’s largest home automation companies, announced that its Victim Assistance Program is providing free home security and monitoring systems to 33 crime victims in North Little Rock as part of a national initiative.
Vivint employees started the Victim Assistance Program in 2010 as a way of giving back to victims of violent crimes—particularly domestic abuse—in their local community. Working with the National Organization for Victims Assistance, Vivint expanded the program earlier this year to four U.S. cities, including North Little Rock. Vivint works closely with local law enforcement to identify individuals and families who will benefit most from free home securityand monitoring services.
Charlene James, victim advocate for the North Little Rock Police Department, works with victims of violent crimes, including rape, domestic violence and child abuse. James has already coordinated the placement of two Vivint home security systems. “When you become a victim of violent crime, it changes your perspective on life,” she said. “The people I work with are still trying to come to grips with what happened. Having a home security system gives them a connection to law enforcement and provides them with a feeling of safety and peace of mind, but that’s not all. A gift like this says that someone cares, and that whether they are away from their homes or asleep at night, someone is watching over them.”
In addition to the home security and monitoring services, recipients will also have access to a free tornado alert service, which Vivint launched earlier this month.
“Protecting families has always been a core value of our company,” said Josh Houser, president of Vivint Gives Back, the company’s charitable division. “It is especially meaningful to be able to help crime victims begin to regain their sense of security. By working directly with local law enforcement and victim advocates, we know our contributions are serving those who need it most.”
