Never Home Alone – Garage Door

Never Home Alone – Garage Door

I seriously laugh every time I remember the garage door scene from the movie Home Alone because it is so realistic. My husband and I totally have this exact conversation whenever we leave the house.

Kate McCallister: Did I turn off the coffee?

Peter McCallister: No… I did.

Kate McCallister: Did you lock up?

Peter McCallister: Yeah.

Kate McCallister: Did we set the timers on the lights?

Peter McCallister: Yeah.

Kate McCallister: Did you close the garage?

Peter McCallister: That’s it. I forgot to close the garage, that’s it.

Peter McCallister: No, that’s not it.

Kate McCallister: Well, what else could we be forgetting?

Kate McCallister: KEVIN!

Luckily we have never forgotten and left behind one of our kids, but we have definitely hit the road with a worried feeling that we might have left the garage door open. Not only is our garage used to park our car, but we also use it as additional storage space for our home. It’s full of nice quality and expensive items including tools, bicycles and camping supplies…exactly what a burglar would like to access easily. I’m embarrassed to admit the number of times we’ve made a loop around the block or bugged a neighbor to check whether the garage door was shut or open.

Installing the Vivint garage door controller has been amazing because it has taken the worry and doubt out of the equation. It works anytime and from anywhere. Whether we are driving away, at the store, in a meeting or visiting another country. We are able to quickly and easily check out garage door status on the mobile app. If it’s closed we can laugh at ourselves for being such worrywarts and if it’s open we can shake our heads at our foolishness and immediately shut it. This means that we’ll never again have to bug a neighbor about the garage and can stick to borrowing eggs and cups of sugar.
