will the groundhog see his shadow?

will the groundhog see his shadow?

It’s almost Ground Hog Day! That’s right, on February 2nd we will find out if there will be 6 more weeks of winter, or an early spring. The tradition dates back through the centuries! On this day the groundhog comes out of his hole to look for his shadow.

If he sees his shadow it means six more weeks of bad weather and he returns to his hole for a long winter’s nap. However, if he doesn’t see his shadow, he takes it as a sign of spring and stays above ground. I don’t know about you, but we have our fingers crossed for an early spring! There are many reasons to want more sunshine and warmer weather, and here are just a few of mine:

  • Energy Savings. Even a small rise in the temperature can mean a lower energy bill. Warmer outside means running the heater less often! More sunlight also means we won’t have to have our lights on as often too.
  • More sun power! If you have ever thought of getting solar panels for your home, now is a great time to do it. Already have some solar-powered goodies? An early spring will help you put them to good use.
  • Better weather means more fun outside. As spring arrives, so does the season of being outside. No more indoor workouts, it’s time to get out and enjoy nature’s gym!

No matter the verdict, we will be waiting to hear what the old groundhog has to say. Are you hoping for more winter, or an early spring?
