Veterans Day was yesterday but observed today—Monday, November 12.  I would like to pay tribute to those brave men and women who have served or who currently serve in defense of our great nation.

Respect for our veterans runs deep in my family.  My great-uncle lost his life on a small island in the Pacific called Iwo Jima.  Decades later, his namesake (and my uncle) spent a year in the jungles of Southeast Asia when he was only 21 years old.  It was an experience that profoundly changed his life.  My dad has always made it a priority to instill in his children a deep respect for our veterans.  He taught us about our nation’s conflicts, including World War II and the Vietnam War, and showed us how to honor our uncles for their service.

This Veterans Day, I hope we take time to reflect on the sacrifices made by our veterans.  It’s the least we can do for those who have fought and died for our liberties.  I don’t think it‘s a coincidence that Veterans Day is during the month of Thanksgiving.  So what do you say to someone you don’t know very well, but has given up so much for you?  Simply, Thank You.
