“undercover boss” behind the scenes with vivint employee mark woods.
Q: How would you describe your “Undercover Boss” experience?
A: My experience on Undercover Boss was great. I’ve never talked to Todd or met with him personally before. It was really cool to be able to work with him for an entire day. Actually, he kind of worked for me, which made it all more interesting.
Q: What was it like working alongside the CEO?
A: I never expected to have the opportunity to work with the CEO, but it was an awesome experience. He listened to all of my concerns, especially regarding employees in the field. He truly wanted to find solutions to make our jobs easier. You can tell that he wants to make Vivint the best company it can be.
Q: What was your first reaction when Todd blew his cover?
A: He blew his cover right away! He literally introduced himself as Todd, and you could just see his heart drop. I tried to play it off and say, “I know lots of Todds,” but the cat was out of the bag. It was actually more comfortable after that, though. We were able to have a great experience together.
Q: If Todd weren’t the CEO of Vivint, would you ever hire him as an install tech?
A: No. I guess he wasn’t too bad after he changed his shoes. He was slipping quite a bit in the beginning. He just didn’t seem too excited to be on a rooftop, and that’s something I have to do every day.
Q: Todd had to change his shoes?
A: Yes, he came out in some pretty terrible tennis shoes, but since he had already blown his cover, I guess he was comfortable requesting an upgrade. He changed from his regular white shoes to some bright green ones. It was actually pretty funny.
Q: What did you think of Todd’s disguise?
A: I’d never seen him with long hair, and on top of being long it was pretty… well, ratty. Part of his beard fell off when we were on the roof. He just looked at it and said, “Whoops! There goes my beard.” We had a good laugh at that.
Q: Did you have any funny conversations with Todd?
A: During our day together, Todd kind of sized me up and asked me if I used to be a wrestler. I told him I did, and he mentioned that he was a basketball player. Then he asked me if I think I could beat him in wrestling. I told him I could beat him for sure, but that I just didn’t want to hurt him. He hasn’t taken me up on it yet.
Q: Todd seemed to connect with you on your situation with your son. What was that like?
A: I don’t like to talk about my situation a lot, but it was nice that Todd really listened and told me how he felt about it. He told me what he would do if he were in my position. It was nice to have a personal connection with him, rather than being all business.
Q: Did anything surprise you about Todd’s personality?
A: He was pretty funny when we were talking. I’ve never seen him joke around like that, but he was still very professional. He wanted to learn about the installation side of Vivint Internet and was truly interested in our interaction with the customer.
Q: What’s the latest with your family?
A: Since the show, I proposed to my girlfriend. We’re planning our trip to Disneyland. Paxton’s pretty excited about that.
