giving back this holiday season
The holiday season is about presents. Just kidding. It’s about giving back. And there are tons of ways for you to give back to your community this winter. Here are several sure-fire ways for you to have a meaningful December!
Volunteer at a shelter – Your community most likely has a center for the homeless or struggling. Instead of exchanging gifts with family and friends, spend time at your local shelter serving food and comforting those in need. You may not think you can do much in a day, but you’d be surprised!
Start a coat drive – Work closely with a local charity or a site like One Warm Coat to collect warm clothing for people in your area who are without. It only takes 3-4 hours to plan and a few days to run. The work is easy, and you’ll become more involved with other volunteers in your community. Anyone can do it!
Sponsor a family – You may have done this before with your local church or when you were younger. Contact the shelter in your area and ask for a list of families that may need sponsoring this holiday season. You can help them by providing clothes, gifts, and food for Christmas!
If you’re unsure of how to help or who to get in touch with, sites like Volunteer Match can help! It does exactly what its name suggests by matching volunteers to the need they can meet. Bonus? It has a directory of major cities, so you’ll have more luck finding ways to give back in a city close to you.
As always, these are just suggestions. There are ways to be a good neighbor and friend without going above and beyond! By staying safe and responsible, you’re already doing your part to make your community a happy one!
